Deep Tissue Massage focuses on realigning layers of muscles and connective tissue deep beneath the skin. While it uses some of the same techniques as Swedish massage, the strokes are slower and more intense pressure is used across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is often used to relieve chronic tension and it helps break up scar tissue, or ‘adhesions’ that tension or injury may create. Those with neck, low back or shoulder pain may find deep tissue massage both restorative and therapeutic.
